Now this is the news. This can shake up the entire college football world if it turns out to be true.

Southern California coach Pete Carroll is interested in the Falcons' head coach opening and spoke with Atlanta owner Arthur Blank via phone Wednesday, sources at the American Football Coaches Convention in Anaheim told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Blank, who has also been searching for a general mangager, was expected to offer full control of personnel decisions to Carroll, and the sources said that is what intrigues Carroll most. The coach is currently on vacation in Hawaii.

The Falcons' interest in talking to Carroll about their opening was first reported Tuesday night by ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli.

Upset Checklist

Urusai's picture

Although today is Thursday, I'm already prepping a list of possible upsets this week:

Tonight:
#7 West Virginia losing to Louisville

Saturday:
#1 Ohio State losing to Illinois
#9 Arizona State losing to UCLA
#2 LSU losing to Louisiana Tech (anything goes in in-state rivalry)
#8 Boston College losing to Maryland

I purposely omit Missouri and Kansas and any team below top 10 because I want to focus more on how this upset can help Sooners to propel its ranking to #2 or even #1. Oregon is in bye-week so it's not even in the radar this weekend.

Usually, upset alert happens between two ranked teams with strong winning records in the season. This year, not so much. Anything goes, anything happen and truth to be told, OU should start taking Baylor seriously. If Oklahoma struggles against sucking Baylor just like the way it did against Iowa State, we better cross our fingers and hope that a lot of shakeups above us will happen ASAP.

Uh Oh BC Survived This Week

Urusai's picture

Not a good news to Oklahoma fans. Boston College survived the scared upset last night by scoring two late touchdowns to beat Virginia Tech 14-10.

Now what does that mean to our Sooners? Well, it's still to early to decide since other games will be played this Saturday. Nevertheless, I suspect that BC's rank will go up and replace Ohio State due to the defeat of #8 VT. Of course, we would like Ohio State to lose, but if it wins this Saturday, it would not be as convincing as a victory against VT.

Just cross our fingers and hope that everything will work out this weekend for Oklahoma Sooners.

Sooner Might Be Back in National Championship Race

Urusai's picture

Here we go again. #2 USF lost to unranked Lousville. Am I surprised by this?

In a season when upsets strike on weekly basis, it is unsurprising that any undefeated team will lose sometime against unranked teams. Actually, let me rephrase that. It is EXPECTED that any undefeated team will fall sometime this season. It's no longer an upset, it's an expectancy. I remember when OU lost to Kansas State in 2003, it was a stunner. No one expected that. No one even thought about Sooners possibly losing to Wildcats. It's just an unthinkable, impossible, out-of-ordinary thing to happen. Yet, it did occur and we were baffled, scrambling for reasons on why it happened.
