OU Suffers Another Blowout Loss in Fiesta Bowl against WVU

Urusai's picture

Embarrassed, annoyed, despair, disappointment. There's so much emotion running through me last night that it took a while to regather myself before posting this blog.

Yes, OU lost AGAIN. And yes, it was another ugly rout. Losing 48-28 by West Virginia in another Fiesta Bowl after an embarrassing lost to Boise State last year. If you didn't know it by know then you are either a caveman/cavewoman or out there in Vegas or overseas. The news is everywhere and Oklahoma Sooners is the official laughing stock of college football to date.

Sorry, I couldn't resist but I can't downplay my disappointment with the Sooners that I've supported all season long just to have their faces plastered as the biggest losers in the big stage of bowl game. And the year 2008 just got started.

Fiesta Preparation

Not much is going on lately since Christmas aside from the returning / reselling gifts and shopping for more deals before the end of the year (I know I am). But Fiesta Bowl is lurking near next Wednesday so for the people who are making trips to Arizona to watch the game live, I wish you guys a happy, safe trip and make sure you gusy support our Sooners for all 4 quarters.

Boomer Sooners!

Oklahoma Still Has A Shot For Championship Game

Urusai's picture

The chance is slim to none, but it's still a chance, right?

This is the current BCS standing: http://sports.espn.go.com...

There are EIGHT (yeah, EIGHT) teams above OU: Missouri, West Virginia, Ohio State, Georgia, Kansas, Virginia Tech, LSU, and USC. It's impossible to be #1 at this since the 1-loss Ohio State doesn't have any more game to play so forget about it. Our best bet will be the #2 spot, and these events need to happen for Sooners to play in MNC:

- Sooners beat Missouri. Duh.
- WVU loses to Pitts. It's very unlikely but hey, anything goes in 2007 season.
- LSU loses to Tennessee.
- USC loses to UCLA.
- VT loses to BC.

Georgia can't really do anything since they didn't win their division of the SEC. Plus, if other 2-loss teams end up being the conference champions, pollster will favor them more than Georgia. Same scenario happens to Kansas.

So see? Just cross your finger and hope for another armageddon shakeup..

The new BCS poll is out:

Oklahoma is ranked #10. What do we need to happen to get back to #2 or #1?

OU lost to Texas Tech 27-34

Urusai's picture

This is the end of the journey, folks :(

With OU's loss yesterday, the road to BCS MNC is completely diminished. There things that bugged my mind all season finally came into reality last night.

1) Sam Bradford to OU is like Dixon to Oregon. The moment he's gone, the offense fell flat and consequently wore down our defense because they had to be on the field at all times.

2) Our pass coverage just suck. Brent got away with it because the offense has been potent all season that his players get a lot of rest on the sideline

3) Halzle is actually a very good QB. But since he didn't get any play time after Tulsa game he became really rusty. The fourth quarter, however, was when Halzle started to shine because by that time he got enough repetition and became comfortable throwing the ball. Stoops really needs to reevaluate Halzle's playtime because he really can carry the team to win whenever Bradford cannot play.

Oregon Fell. What We Learn From The Game

Urusai's picture

There are a lot of things running through my mind at 100mph while watching Oregon - Arizona game last night:

- Pac10 officials just suck. Simply suck. They missed a blatant facemask violation against Oregon then went on to review a catch pass. They also made some questionable calls on fumbles which were corrected most of the time via replay review.

- It's not Oregon team, it's Dixon team. Dixon gone? Bye bye team.

- Maybe Stoops should let Sooners backup QBs play a bit more? Just in case Sam Bradford gets injured like Dixon did?

- I miss Mike Stoops. A lot. Wish he's still here coaching alongside his brother Bob.

What's The Top Conference In College Football Now?

Urusai's picture

Is Big XII weak? Let's say if both LSU and Oregon lose this week (or next), who are the remaining top 3 in the country ;) ? That's right:

Expert: Big 12 will push its way into BCS title game
Kansas, Oklahoma or Missouri will be playing for national title
ASK THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL EXPERT

LSU or Oregon?

Oregon or LSU?

The argument rages. Who should be No. 1 now? Who’s going to be No. 1 after the BCS championship game in New Orleans? It’s a terrific debate.

And it completely overlooks the hottest topic in college football — the Big 12 Conference’s sudden three-pronged approach to a national championship.

Kansas (10-0), Oklahoma (9-1) and Missouri (9-1).

Sooners Ranked 4 in The Latest BCS Standing

rushers's picture

Another 2007 BCS shakeup just happened today:

http://sports.espn.go.com...

Ohio State went down to #7 after the loss to Illinois. Everything else? Well, they are kinda expected: LSU #1, Oregon #2, Kansas #3, Oklahoma #4, Missouri #5.

Let's see. If OU beats the unbeaten Kansas in Big 12, Sooners will be able to jump to #2 replacing Oregon. If both LSU and Oregon lose sometime before then, then Big 12 championship will feature #1 vs #2 ranked team in the nation! Can you imagine that? OU vs Kansas or OU vs Missouri will be THE game of the season!

Everything looks good to Oklahoma. But watch out for Texas Tech. Their potent offense can possibly wreck to Sooners road to MNC game. Even Mike Gundy's manly troops can sneak behind our back and put a hammer to our national championship hope.

OU, Kansas, Missouri on BCS Top 6

Urusai's picture

Wow, look at the new BCS standing:

http://sports.espn.go.com...

Notice how OU is ranked and how everything will work to our favor if everything proceeds according to plan? Kansas jumps us to #4 while Sooners only moves up to #5 (unsurprisingly due to Jayhawk rout against Nebraska 76-39). And guess who's behind us? That's right, it's Missouri, another strong 1-loss team representing Big 12.

Now we only need these two teams to win out all the way before their showdown on late November so that OU's schedule strength will look much better to BCS computers. If Sooners wins out and beats either Mizzou or Jayhawk in Big 12 Championship, we potentially can jump both LSU and Oregon to #2. Of course, it would be better if OSU, LSU and Oregon lose sometime before the season ends...

Plus, three Big 12 teams on top six BCS standing? Are you kidding me :) ? With all the media's barrage that Big 12 is a weak conference, the new poll is sure pleasing to the eyes.
