I just watched The Dark Knight at Warren Theatre this afternoon. I don't have much to say than to repeat what other reviews have been saying all weekend: This movie is AWESOME. A++++. It belongs to the list of best movies of ALL TIME, joining up the big boys such as Godfather, Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption and other classics that are timeless. And considering that this is a comic movie, it says a lot.
I know that Ledger's death magnified people's interest to this movie by multiple fold. If he were still alive today, I'm sure the movie would have not been as successful as it is now. It certainly will be a solid blockbuster, but it won't be as close as of today. I felt that Warner Bros capitalizes his death to hype the movie whether it is intentional or not.
But let's not kid ourselves. He played Joker the way he meant to be played. I didn't see Ledger in the movie at all, it was all Joker. His voice, his mannerism, his nuanced behavior, attitude and everything was so perfectly executed that Ledge did not "perform" as Joker but became the Joker himself.
I haven't seen a movie that executes everything perfectly. The characters, the story, drama, plots, action, execution, flow, art, visual, music everything is so near flawless it is hard to notice any flaw unless I pay very close attention (which I didn't. I was too engrossed in the movie to nitpick). It just screams Oscar nominations all over it.
I'll be hell pissed if Ledger doesn't win Oscar. He shined like a bright star through the layered skin of a maniac, insane villain.
On the side note, I was a little disappointed that I did not see any people camping to see this movie. It was almost like a walk in the park to get the ticket. No super long line in Warren whatsoever. Nevertheless, the movie was packed that I had to seat near front rows.
