Sooners Football Schedule in 2008

Urusai's picture

FINALLY! This is the complete, final 2008-2009 Oklahoma Sooners football schedule (as if January 16, 2008):

8/30 Chattanooga

9/6 Cincinnati

9/13 at Washington

9/27 TCU

10/4 at Baylor

10/11 vs Texas

10/18 Kansas

10/25 at Kansas State

11/1 Nebraska

11/8 at Texas A&M

11/15 Texas Tech

11/29 at Oklahoma State

12/6 Big 12 CG (TBA)

So in order to make up how bad we looked in Fiesta, OU filled up TBA with Chattanooga? I mean, no disrespect for them (They can pull an upset like any other team did last year), but if we want to get back to the NC race, we need a tougher out of conference opponent.

At the end of the day, polls do look hard into schedule strengths and we're not helping ourselves.

Weak. Put USC or LSU on 9/13 then we'll have a case to the media.

And Missouri on 11/22 :-)

Seems like Joe Castiglione didn't learn that weak schedule hurts our bid to BCS. He really needs to hook us up with tougher opponents.

Washington is decent but they are not going to wow the voters. TCU is capable to upset us anytime but beating them won't count much on polls.

Hell, whoever wins the championship this year should be slotted on our 9/13 game. Let's just say that it's a post-championship final ;-)

I'm concerned with those 5 road games. We lost to 2 of our 3 road games and barely won it against Texas in Cotton Bowl. Sam was not in his element when he played on the opposing home fields so it'll be interesting how much he'll improve next year.

TBA will kick everybody's ass next year ;)

Lesse here:

Baylor, Nebraska and ATM got new coaches. They might be better teams next year.
Kansas will be ranked high on preseason despite winning or losing in their bowl game.
More potential cinderella stories similar to Kansas and Missouri this year.

I like our chances. Unless they flop 180 like Notre Doom.

Baylor and Nebraska may turn good next year. Their new coaches are promising and Bo Pelini will bring his tenacious defensive along with some good recruits away from LSU.

After what happened last night pounding, I say bring us WVU to fill in TBA slot.

Even better bring us LSU, OSU, and SUC into the mix.

Time for redemption!

I'm going to feel the pain of that Fiesta loss for a long long time. I couldn't bear to watch on 4th quarter. It was so ugly.

I think it's time for Joe to start bringing in more competitive out of conference teams to play us. It's obvious that OU is at the top in Big 12 because they are comfortable with their inside conference opponents. They play them almost every year so they get away with their vanilla offensive and defensive system.

When OU plays against any good team with schemes that they haven't seen the entire year, they tend to choke.

Joe should try to get some OOC games with SEC teams like Florida. Even better if we can start our season playing USC, Georgia or LSU. I'll take rematch with WVU anytime of the day.

OU can use that 9/13 slot for USC. I'd say bring it on!

Or any top 10 team with unorthodox play style like WVU. It will give Sooner's linemen a run for their money.

Okay guys, both Washington and TCU games are moved up 1 week earlier to 9/13 and 9/20.

So that leaves 9/27 and 11/22 in question. Most likely one of them will be a week off and another for TBA.

Crecendo's picture

I vote for USC. Somebody gotta shut the mouth of those Pete Carroll-lover ESPN.

Fluffyhead's picture

You guys seriously think that's gonna happen?

Crapberry's picture

No, but it's nice to think about it :D

Party pooper :P

Getting Miami to play us last season was rare let alone USC. Just forget it and move on.

But silitai nailed it. Anytime Sooners plays a good outside-of-conference team, they tend to be confused and disoriented. We are way too comfortable playing against Big 12 opponents.

Any news on the TBA ?

Barney's picture

Not yet

Cnema's picture

It's too early to determine that TBA, anyway. Most likely, we won't get any word until sometime in spring.

Karasol's picture

The final schedule sucks. Oklahoma will have Ohio State syndrome if they keep having games with weak OOC opponents.

crimson29s's picture

a "weak" OOC team beat Notre Dame last year :P

With the departure of some of our best defensive players, I don't mind this schedule. Good for practice, u know what I mean?
