Medieval Fair on April 4th - 7th

Ezman's picture

Just a quick reminder to everyone that Medieval Fair will be held on April 4th - 7th (Friday - Saturday).

IME, it's going to be about the same festivities as previous years: throwing axes, shurikens, riding elephants, knight-battle simulations etc. I visit it almost every year, and I swear I can visually remember where they are located. Their attractions literally never move around.

But if you haven't been to one, I highly recommend you to check it out. It's one of Norman's annual highlights. It's a great way to welcome spring season.

I'll try to take some photos during that time and post them here.

Cold Night

Ezman's picture

I went out last night to Logans to get some drinks and to chill. It was relatively subdued. Not so many people as I expected, the atmosphere is relatively calm compared to weekend. Yeah, thanks to freezing, cold, windy weather.

What I noticed, though, is the new Sooner Textbook store located right next to Seven47. Why would they build a student bookstore that's literally side by side with a bar full of alcohol? Actually, I don't really want to know :) , but looking at those 2 places is like watching good-vs-evil force battling it out. Or them shaking hand and living in truce. It's convenient, really. You buy your books then go right next door for some buzz before going home :)

So Much For The Weekend

Let me see the list:

- No OU football game. Checked
- Frezing weather. Checked
- People prefer to stay in apartment than outside. Checked
- Campus Corner rather empty. Checked

Sucks.

Dead Week

Ezman's picture

Finals week is coming. Library and lounges filled with students carrying their laptop, coffee latte, stacks of papers and bad hairdo. They stay in the same place from morning to night with their eyes tunneled straight to books and to computer screen for eternity. They only move when their stomach growls or their urinal needs kick in.

I'm one of them.

Big 12 Championship in San Antonio

San Antonio - Big 12 Championship Oklahoma Sooners vs Missouri Tigers

Few things to note when you make the trip to San Antonio this weekend:

- Texas highway patrol is increasing their "coverage" on the northeast side of San Antonio including Randolph AFB and San Antonio International Airport area. So watch out.

- I-35 is having some construction between I-410 and the Bexar/Guadalupe county lines, so you'd have to slow down on those areas.

- If you're still looking for hotel rooms, check out some locations around Randolph AFB and Sea World. You might be in luck.

- Good luck getting the ticket. It's a hell.

Cheyenne Playing The Flaming Lips Songs In Norman

I found these videos by accident. These videos show local band named Cheyenne covering Flaming Lips' songs at The Opolis in Norman. I think It's really cool that more and more celebrities are originated from Oklahoma. Now I'm going to look for Carrie Underwood videos:

Single? Avoid Seven47

Ezman's picture

I've been to Seven47 and Logan a lot that I can say this: Seven47 is not a bar for singles.

Most of people there are for their friends and networks. It's not to say that it's impossible to meet the opposite sex at Seven47, it's just that it is a lot easier to do it at Logan. IME, I met a lot of girls who were much nicer and approachable in Logan. Compared that with girls at Seven47. Their attention spams are way shorter cause they have to run around catching up with their friends. Did I mention they are 100x snobbier?

But IMO what makes Logan a better place than Seven47 is that it's a much more relaxing place. First of all, Logan has a lot more space. A LOT. You can walk around the place without bumping with other people too much. There are seating areas inside Logan where you can sit down comfortably without cramping out space.

Sonics Moving To OKC Looks Convincing

Ezman's picture

Looks like Sonics is very likely to move to OKC. What I didn't know before is that the conflict between Sonics and Seattle started off from NBA requiring the city to use its public tax to pay for the stadium facility. Now, Bennett already has his mind set off to move Sonics to OKC so that's no brainer, but does that mean OKC has to shove more tax dollars to support Sonics if it indeed lands in Oklahoma City? Not only we are already strapped in cash in terms of our local tax dollars, but if this new proposal has to sacrifice other essential programs like education fund and health care, then there will be some heated debate in the community.

Honestly, all I've been trying to do is find out if Clay Bennett has a dog, plays golf and drinks beer, only to discover a more newsy item thanks to an e-mail from a colleague.

Bye Week

Ezman's picture

Since this week is a bye-week for Sooners, I figured I might get some stuff done (finally!). I got papers due in a few weeks, some errands on my to-do-list, and other things I couldn't think off my head right now.

I'm actually relieved that the bye-week happens this weekend. All the noises, tailgating and people yelling "Boomer Sooner" from morning to late night get old really fast. It's downright annoying, to be honest. I do miss the BBQ ribs, though.

I'd hit up Campus Corner, though. I love Campus Corner's scenery and how much it has been turning out from a ghost town district to a mini 6th Street of Austin within a mere 3 years. I always imagined that it will be Norman's main attractions if handled properly, and it's on the right track right now. Instead of driving 20 minutes to Oklahoma City to party, I can just drive in 5 minutes to Campus Corner.
